Yesterday’s Meredith Music Festival 2015 lineup certainly turned some heads and prompted more than a few punters to ask “Really!?” After all, it was certainly one of the beloved festival’s most eclectic lineups in a while.

Aunty Meredith has decided to celebrate her flagship event’s 25th anniversary with a diverse roster compiled especially for music lovers, with appearances from Father John Misty, Big Daddy Kane, The Thurston Moore Band, Ratatat, and more.

One name that certainly got the attention of classic rock radio lovers was the Steve Miller Band, the veteran rock group behind some of the ’70s most iconic hits like ‘The Joker’, ‘Jet Airliner’, and ‘Take The Money And Run’.

As FasterLouder note, outlets were overcome with excitement at the prospect of having the rock legends make their way down to the Meredith Supernatural Amphitheatre, playing through their discography of rock radio staples.

Noise11 reportedly led with the news that the Steve Miller Band were on the lineup alongside Thurston Moore and The Fatback Band, while Adelaide’s Rip It Up wrote that tapping the band was part of the festival’s bid to assert its “retro cred”.

Meanwhile, The Howls and Echoes blog wrote that “watching one of the defining acts of 1970s America in The Steve Miller Band [and] hearing songs like ‘Fly Like An Eagle’ and the timeless ‘The Joker’ in a live environment should be a revelatory experience”.

The only problem is the Steve Miller Band featured on the Meredith 2015 lineup is not that Steve Miller Band. As Aunty Meredith’s official press release makes clear, Meredith 2015 will feature an appearance from Melbourne band The SMB aka The Steve Miller Band.

The local trio, comprised of Handsome Steve, The Duchess, and The Shewolf, are most commonly referred to by their initials, so you can understand the confusion, and if the distinction still isn’t clear, the SMB will be supporting The Drones during their upcoming shows in Melbourne and Castlemaine.

So no, you won’t get to sing along to ‘The Joker’ in the ‘Sup this summer, but you’ll still get to see some sure-to-be amazing performances from the likes of The Peep Tempel, Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Goat, and more.
