Haim have announced their second album will be out in Australia this winter.
The as-yet-untitled album will follow 2013’s massive Days Are Gone, and, according to a chat with Entertainment Weekly, will be a more stripped back and organic affair than their heavily-produced debut.
“We decided we were going to do what we’ve always done,” Danielle Haim told EW of writing and practicing the new material in their parents’ living room. “We wanted to get back to our so-called roots. We needed just it be the three of us in the beginning. We just wanted to get back in the zone.”
“I played a fretless five-string [bass], and I haven’t played a fretless five-string since I was a 12-year-old listening to Korn,” Este added. “You don’t even know what’s coming for you. I’m warning you. You. Don’t. Even. Know.”
The album saw the trio of sisters collaborate with Ariel Rechtshaid, who worked on their debut album, and ex-Vampire Weekend multi-instrumentalist Rostam Batmanglij. Even including these two was a stretch. “There’s three perfectionists in our band,” Alana Haim explains, “and to add anymore people would be too much of a party.”
