Soundgarden and Audioslave singer Chris Cornell passed away on Wednesday night in Detroit, aged 52.

Cornell’s rep Brian Bumbery made a statement to The Associated Press, revealing that Cornell died a “sudden and unexpected” death.

Cornell last spoke publicly on Twitter earlier today, as he arrived in Detroit for Soundgarden’s live performance.

UPDATE: An early autopsy and police statement have indicated that Cornell’s death was the result of suicide.
