Whether you’re throwing on a particular track to get the blood flowing pre-game, or watching an epic highlights package soundtracked by the perfect band, music and sport just go together.

So, in the spirit of competition, we’ve got a bit of help from the captains of this year’s Reclink Community Cup teams – Rockdogs and Megahertz – in putting together a list of great pump-up anthems, which you can check out below.

The cup is about to be played for the 24th year in a row, with two teams of local musicians and community radio broadcasters competing in a fierce contest, then relaxing over a mini festival lineup of Spiderbait, The Peep Tempel, REMI., Deborah Conway, Jen Cloher and more – even Murray from The Wiggles will be joining.

Better yet, all the proceeds go directly towards helping Reclink Australia support disadvantaged communities, and tickets are only $15 + b/f. It all goes down this Sunday June 25 at Melbourne’s Victoria Park, and tickets and more info can be found here.

Nick Cooper (Rockdogs)

Midnight Oil – ‘Power and the Passion’

“This is a bit of a ‘no explanation required’. An Aussie pub rock classic released in the year of my birth (1982 – Year of the Dog) that has it all – politics, controversy, Australiana and an epic Rob Hurst drum solo (the only Oils studio track to feature this ‘white unicorn’ of pop-rock). The Rockdogs live and breathe the Power and the Passion of Reclink and the Community Cup.”

Little River Band – ‘Playing To Win’

“Now THIS song inspires greatness. One of my most potent musical childhood memories is of watching in awe as Whispering Jack tore this LRB track, and the audience, a new one on his 1988 tour.

“Possibly the reason that I still play keyboards in bands today, and this track punctuated one of my career highlights when Music Victoria presented its 10 year Hall of Fame concert at the infamous Palais Theatre in 2015 and Farnsy delighted and FIRED UP everyone lucky enough to be there. Boss track, love the 80’s.

Bikini Kill – ‘Rebel Girl’

“If this song doesn’t make you want to pull some boots on and smash the patriarchy / kill some goals, than I don’t know what will.”

Modesty – ‘M.O.D.E.S.T.Y’

“Written in the spirit of Empowerment, Anarchy and LOLs (lots of LOLs), this track gets hearts racing. It is a song for EVERYONE who ever dreamt of breaking out, being bold and wanting to destroy the status quo. I know because I wrote it. ❤”

Bethany Atkinson-Quinton (Megahertz)

Lafawndah – ‘Jungle Exit’

“Lafawndah gets us ready to dance rings around the Rockdogs. Watch out for some sweet sweet Mega moves, both of the football and groove variety.”

Peaches – ‘Boys Want To Be Her’

“Peaches’ music is infectious – nothing better to fire up the Megaz for a win!!!”
