Back in the ’90s, if you wanted a dose of the oddball, all you had to do was chuck on a Beck CD and you’d be transported into a world where lines like “Heads are hanging from the garbage man trees/Mouthwash, jukebox, gasoline” made perfect sense. While Beck isn’t revelling in the kooky as much as he once was, he still delivers quality entertainment, as evidenced by the adorable video for newest single ‘Fix Me’.

The closing track of Colors, Beck’s thirteenth(!) studio album which was released last October, ‘Fix Me’ is a rather mellow number, showing a softer side to the ‘Loser’ hitmaker, and showing off a tenderness that fans first heard with Sea Change back in the early ’00s.

The track’s accompanying video is already a viral hit, being passed around the Internet thanks to its too-cute cast. Featuring the Instagram-famous Mame, and her three poodles, Gaku, Riku, and Qoo, the video shows all four of them playing, reading books, and indulging in some birthday cake. It’s a surprisingly simple concept, but if the video’s YouTube comments are anything to go by, it’s pulling on the heartstrings a little bit.

“There’s something really special happening in the mountains of Yamagata, and we were lucky enough to enter Mame’s world for two afternoons in November,” explained director Brook Linder to Rolling Stone. “That home is heaven on Earth. One of the dogs, Qoo, and I had a special connection – I think he’s my great-grandfather reincarnated… or something. He looked into my soul.”

Beck is set to visit Australia for the first time in a few years next month as he makes his way over for the inaugural Sydney City Limits Festival, playing a couple of sideshows while he’s here. Check out the video below, and get acquainted with Beck’s upcoming dates, too.
