Melbourne four-piece rockers, My Echo are about to release their self-titled EP This Friday May 2nd via Ten To Two Records.

The upcoming 6-track EP was recorded with local producer, Hadyn Buxton (Blueline Medic, Trial Kennedy) at Melbourne’s iconic Sing Sing Studios, with a clear focus to capture the band’s revered live energy – Buxton opted to track live to tape. “Recording live to tape was one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences we have had as a band to date”, recalls vocalist Brenton Perry. “There is obviously no room to make mistakes and it made us tighter as a group”.

The band are insanely busy at the moment in the lead up to the EP release, national tour and their Bendigo Groovin The Moo appearance. We asked My Echo’s vocalist and guitarist Brenton Perry to give us a track by track rundown of the EP.

Lonesome City

“Is about the big city being a lonely and cold place when you feel like you have nobody. At the time I felt like I didn’t have anyone to turn to so I couldn’t sleep. But I also had too much to leave behind so I couldn’t run away.”

Black Water Blues

“Is the old story of not being able to have what or who you want and making sacrifices in order to get it…whether good or bad!”

The Insincere

“I was with an ex partner at the time, yet was falling in love with somebody else. I was stuck in the middle. I didn’t know what the answer or the right thing to do was. One moment you feel like you have made the right decision and then all of a sudden you find yourself questioning everything.”

Small Town Riot

“Is in reference to a certain country town that we have an interesting history with and escaping that place while we could.”

Veins

“A while back I was pretty fucking miserable and I realised that the only thing that ever made me happy was playing music and hanging out with my best mates. I went and pinched a chord progression off a song I loved at the time and wrote about the only thing that was keeping me sane at the time. It was actually just going to be an acoustic number for myself but the band dug it so we made it what it is now.”

Bang Bang Bang!

“Is about people trying to take advantage of you and your current situation. The users and abusers! Whether it is in business or personal life, you will always face demons that try and hack in to your success. Those people are scum!”
