Melbourne’s NGV has just become an ideal place to catch live music every Friday night with the introduction of a new weekly event: ‘Friday Nights at NGV’.

Each Friday night from 6-10pm the NGV will host a curated selection of talented Australian artists, along with an array of food, drink, art and inspiration.

Aug 26: Kid Congo & The Pink Monkey Birds

Friday August 26th sees Kid Congo & The Pink Monkey Birds take the stage to showcase their greasy psych-rock to the NGV. With a crazy stacked resume (Gun Club, The Cramps, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds), Kid Congo is pretty much guaranteed to wow the crowd with a not to be missed performance.

Associate Professor Kate MacNeill from the University of Melbourne will be presenting a short talk entitled ‘Looking through a Keyhole’: Picturing Women and French group La Mauvaise Réputation will also be performing.

Sep 2: Mick Harvey – Intoxicated Man

Friday September 2nd sees the Bad Seeds party continuing, with co-founder Mick Harvey performing selections from his new album Delirium Tremens, the long awaited third volume in his songs of Serge Gainsbourg translated into English series.  Mick, with a full band plus string section, will also perform selections from the previous two volumes, Intoxicated Man and Pink Elephants.

Michael Christoforidis from the University of Melbourne will be presenting a short talk entitled ‘Music and the Ballet in Degas’s Paris’ and French group La Mauvaise Réputation will also be performing.

Sep 9: Pierce Bros

Friday September 9th sees Melbourne buskers Pierce Brothers performing as a part of their run of shows launching their top 10 ARIA EP Into The Dirt. Comprising of twin brothers Jack and Pat Pierce, their now acclaimed live set is sure to be a spectacle worth seeing.

Professor Peter McPhee from the University of Melbourne will be presenting a short talk entitled ‘Degas encounters Manet’ and French group La Mauvaise Réputation will also be performing.

Sep 16: Augie March

Friday September 16th sees Melbourne’s Hottest 100 champs Augie March take to the stage to perform their slew of hits for the final instalment of  NGV Friday Nights.

Ted Gott, Curator of International Art at the NGV will be presenting a short talk on the Degas: A New Vision exhibition space and Gypsy Jam will also be showcasing Jazz Manouche or French style Jazz, a style of music they perfected whilst living and working in Paris.
