It’s no secret that Australian artists are doing big things overseas right now. Vance Joy alone has sold an incredible 2 million copies of the ukelele-driven hit ‘Riptide’ in the US, earning the young songwriter a double platinum certification.

APRA AMCOS, the organisation responsible for collecting licensing royalties on behalf of Australian musicians and songwriters, released their Year In Review earlier this month, boasting some of the best returns for members seen in years.

“Of particular note have been the significant growth in foreign royalty earnings for Australian and New Zealand songwriters over the course of the year,” APRA AMCOS CEO Brett Cottle AM proudly wrote in his annual breakdown.

Indeed, foreign performing right revenue shot up 26 percent to $34 million since the last audit, which indicated a 24 percent increase in foreign revenue. It was, in fact, the most successful year for Australia’s international appeal.

Clearly, our homegrown bands and artists are doing something right, and further proving that the overseas market simply can’t get enough of Australians right now are 5 Seconds of Summer, who are headed for their second US Number 1 album.

As Billboard reports, industry forecasters are predicting the Sydney pop rock act’s latest album, Sounds Good Feels Good, will shift around 185,000 equivalent album units in the week ending 29th October.

This would earn the band their second Number 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart, which ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, including traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).

The album is the band’s second full-length effort, a follow-up to their self-titled debut, which sold 259,000 copies in its first week (according to Nielsen Music), earning the band their first Number 1 album in the US.

As part of their plot for US domination, 5 Seconds of Summer recently appeared on the Tonight Show to perform their latest single, ‘Hey Everybody’. Readers can check out a clip of the performance in the embed below.
