Some of Australia’s finest performers will come together at Melbourne’s famous Corner Hotel for two very special concerts to benefit multi-instrumentalist John Hedigan, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour earlier this year and is currently undergoing treatment.

John’s bandmates in Something For Kate will perform on a bill featuring acclaimed Australian singer-songwriter Clare Bowditch and former Powderfinger guitarist and songwriter Darren Middleton, along with some special guests, for what will be two evenings no Aussie music fan will want to miss.

All proceeds will go directly to John and his family to help out in what is obviously a very trying time. Speaking to Tone Deaf, Something For Kate frontman Paul Dempsey remarked on the impact that Hedigan has had on the lives of all the featured performers.

“Clare Bowditch introduced me to John Hedigan in 2009 when I was looking for a multi-instrumentalist to round out my band to tour my solo album,” said Dempsey. “We hit it off immediately and he’s been playing with me and with Something for Kate ever since.

“He and I must’ve spent hundreds of hours on tour boring the rest of the band shitless with our conversations and debates just about everything and anything, his curiosity and capacity for understanding are boundless.”

“He’s one of the most talented musicians I’ve ever met as well as being one of the most intelligent, generous and compassionate humans I’ve ever met.” Meanwhile, Clare Bowditch credits Hedigan with helping to launch her career.

“To get very personal very quickly, John is the only reason I started recording songs, and the only reason anyone has ever heard of me, full stop,” she told Tone Deaf. “When we met by chance at the age of 22, he heard something in me that no-one else had ever heard.”

“He asked me to start a band with him, right there and then. He was the first musician to ever call me a musician, and I have never lost the feeling of how good that felt. He took my half-finished songs and made them sound like something you could be proud of.”

“Something For John is a night none of us wanted to happen,” said Darren Middleton. “It’s always a shock to learn a friend and music partner is going through such a heavy life experience. John was one of the first people I contacted when moving to Melbourne and needing new bandmates.”

“He is a friend and all round musical gem. People may not know John personally, but this night will bring a rare combination of Melbourne artists who have all had him in their lives and on stages. Get on down to this unique event.”
