The thirst for local music and its global appeal showed no signs of stopping in 2016.

ARIA’s annual wholesale figures show, released today, showed 20 Australian artists scored #1 albums in 2016, collectively spending 25 weeks at #1 on the chart.

Surprising no one, The Secret Daughter soundtrack featuring Jessica Mauboy spent three weeks at #1 last year. The show helped give Channel 7 the ratings lead last year, its 10th year of leadership.

Also taking out multiple weeks at #1 were Keith Urban with Ripcord (two weeks), Human Nature with Gimme Some Lovin’: Jukebox Vol.II (three), and John Farnham & Olivia Newton-John with Friends For Christmas (two).

2017 will be another banner year for local music with four Australian acts already having #1 albums (Kasey Chambers, Dune Rats, Busby Marou, The Waifs). Plus multiple ARIA award winner Flume won a motherfucking Grammy, so there’s that.
