Ben Folds has just revealed that he’ll be touring Australia next year, and even better, he’s taking requests in a pretty unusual fashion.

The eclectic pop troubadour has announced dates in Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Adelaide, Perth and Hobart, all to take place in February next year, and while Melbourne may be conspicuously absent from that list, don’t worry – he’ll be announcing those details too.

As for the requests? Well, the first half of each show will be picked by the man himself from across his discography, but the second half of each set will be dedicated to a special ‘Paper Aeroplane Request’ portion that will, of course, see you throwing paper planes onstage with songs written on them, to be selected at random. And don’t worry, paper is provided at the venue.

We wouldn’t normally encourage throwing anything at people when they’re trying to perform, but this is an idea we can get behind, so check out the dates below and start practicing your paper-plane-building right now.

Ben is of course great at live novelties like this, having recently composed a song live for an orchestra based on audience feedback in just 10 minutes, which you can check out below.
