Mike Shinoda and Mark Hoppus wrote a song together from scratch on stage as part of a keynote presentation at MIDEM in Cannes earlier this month.

 “You’re really gonna see how the magic happens,” Variety‘s Shirly Halperin explains, before introducing the unlikely pair, who begin to craft a song in real time.

The song that arrive at — at least the verse and chorus we are treated to — is basically what you’d expect from such a collaboration: a sparse beat, and some Shinoda keyboard work with a Blink-esque vocal melody and power chord guitar parts.
