Winter at university was never a good time for the members of Bluejuice. Concentrating on “Oedipal Complexes of The Leopard Slug and Resulting Ramifications For High Density Housing” was difficult in all that cold, and all that darkness. Hard times indeed.
They survived though, and this winter, instead of insisting daily that their manager make them slow-cooked meals with polenta on the side, Bluejuice have decided to try and ease the plight of freezing students by touring the universities of Australia.
The “Winter Of Our Discotheque” Tour coincides with the release of Bluejuice’s fourth single, ‘The Recession (Winter Of Our Discotheque Remix)’, a song re-assembled for the dancefloor by multi-platinum producer, Styalz Fuego – who wrote and produced the mega hit ‘Boys Like You’ for 360.
Joining Bluejuice on their academic odyssey will be Deep Sea Arcade and The Preachers.
Deep Sea Arcade sound like The Zombies throwing a beach party for Portishead. Their music is ‘Blue Velvet’ with ‘Clockwork Orange’ flashes. Led by vocalist Nic McKenzie and bassist Nick Weaver, the band combine their love of 60’s beat, surf and psychedelic rock with 80’s new wave, ‘Madchester’ and trip hop. The pair, friends since meeting at high school in Sydney, penned dozens of songs and experimented with every sort of sound in their bedroom before finding their perfect counterparts in drummer Carlos Adura and guitarists Simon Relf and Tim Chamberlain.
With a live show more reminiscent of a religious cult and old school influences, The Preachers’ brand of hardworking Rock & Roll has made them one of Sydney’s most respected young bands. After releasing their self-titled EP in early 2010, the band began work on The 66 Project, an initiative that saw them in collaboration with local artists, designers and filmmakers to release free demos for six months. In that time they have supported and worked with acts like Blitzen Trapper, The Cranberries, Black Cab, Ratcat, Cameras, Gin Wigmore, WIM, Phrase, Papa vs Pretty, Belles will Ring, and Guineafowl.
So come let Bluejuice educate you with their high-energy rock show!
