Bluesfest 2017 is already shaping up to be another incredible year, with music legend Patti Smith closing out her Australian touring career and local hero Neil Finn playing alongside such varied acts as The Doobie Brothers and NAS, but no Bluesfest would be complete without its sister festival Boomerang.
Curated with Australia’s Indigenous talent in mind, it brings the culture to the forefront, weaving its rituals and art into a unique music festival experience that can’t be found anywhere else.
Programmed by festival director Rhoda Roberts, this year’s event brings some exceptional names in the likes of genre-spanning dance act OKA, singer-songwriter Emily Wurramara, freedom-fighters Airileke and Rize of the Morning Star, and First Nation emcee/singer-songwriter Leonard Sumner, with plenty more.
“Let’s begin the healing together and dance to the new music, listen to the language and witness the ancient and the accessible,” says Rhoda. “Now the time is right. Boomerang festival in conjunction with Bluesfest knows it’s time to redefine the great experiences of festivals. Come and dip your toe in.”
