We’ve seen some pretty interesting entry ideas from Aussie music festivals lately.

From last year’s Future Music Festival turning potential patrons into promoters for their event to this year’s inaugural NYE On The Hill offering its final passes for punters with the best excuse for missing out on snapping up tickets to the sold out event (in its first year, mind); there’s been some pretty creative ideas to get festival-goers excited.

Following in the footsteps of Warped Tour offering the chance to jump the queue in exchange for a donation, Tasmania’s Breath Of Life festival is putting its goodwill first.

The festival is offering fans a chance to catch its impressive 2014 lineup – featuring Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Public Enemy, and Empire Of The Sun among its 25 name strong bill – for zero dollars.

The catch? They’ve got to be able to raise the similar cost of their ticket price through good will, namely by raising donation’s for the Breath of Life festival’s charity of choice: Lung Foundation Australia.

The Launceston-based event annually raises money for the charity foundation towards research into chronic lung disease and lung health awareness, raising over $70,000 for its 2011 debut, and now it’s asking fans to do the same, offering entry into Breath of Life 2014 in exchange for raising $200 worth of donations. The festival is offering fans entry for zero dollars. The catch? They’ve got to be able to raise the similar cost of their ticket price through good will…

Those who go the extra fundraising yards past the $200 mark however, will be in the running for some extra benefits, with two top fundraisers also receiving Breath Of Life merchandise and a backstage VIP tour with a friend, and if the top good-hearted Lung awareness-raising individual is 18+, they’ll also get a free ticket to the Festival After Party for two.

With early bird tickets to the event going for $119.95 and now completely sold out ahead of a second release of tickets going on sale, the fundraising offer also provides an option for those that are little strapped for festival funds. (Full details are available from Lung Foundation Australia here).

Breath of Life 2014 takes place on Saturday 8th March in the Inveresk Precinct in Launceston, Tasmania, but may not be at its traditional home at the Showgrounds following the event’s stoush with local council after they were snubbed of $20,000 in council funding.

Promoters Opcon had approached Launceston City Council for $20,000 in sponsorship funding in September, after having previously received $21,150 from council over two years, but were denied a share of the council’s event sponsorship budget of $378,000 in favour of 10 other community events that had their applications granted.

Regardless of the funding overlook, Breath Of Life is soldiering ahead with its plans for its 2014 edition, including its impressive lineup. Topping the bill is ticket scalper-pranking hip hop duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and forthcoming Golden Plains headliners Public Enemy.

Also on the Breath Of Life 2014 lineup is a strong Aussie contingent, featuring electropop masters Empire Of The Sun, Art Vs. Science, hardcore heroes Parkway Drive, Tonight Alive, arty proggers Dead Letter Circus, and UNFD label faves Buried In Verona and Indigenous charity helpers In Hearts Wake. Hip hop heads have plenty more to enjoy too, with the presence of MCs Drapht, Pez, and rising star Allday.
