Some of your favourite Australian artists have made a list of the world’s most hated songs. The extensive list was compiled by a British music fan who put the call out on social media, asking people for “the song you most detest and despise”.

As the New York Post reports, Edward Carter collated responses from Twitter users all over the world, compiling a lengthy list of ‘kryptonite songs’. Sitting at the top? Somewhat surprisingly, peace anthem ‘Imagine’ by John Lennon.

“I think it’s the whole idea of talking about poverty and misery, while John was actually hanging around in his palatial New York townhouse,” Carter told the New York Post when asked why the former Beatle’s iconic song was so despised.

Others that garnered hate in Twitter users were the Joni Mitchell classic ‘Big Yellow Taxi’ (including the covers by Amy Grant and Counting Crows), as well as ‘Love Shack’ by the B-52s and ‘Rude’ by Magic!, largely because they’ve been so overplayed.

Also sitting amongst this roll call of musical infamy are Courtney Barnett for ‘Pickles From The Jar’, Vance Joy for his signature tune ‘Riptide’, and Australian pop royalty Savage Garden for their mega-hit ‘Truly, Madly, Deeply’.
