It’s one of the most debated topics in music history, but one conspiracy theorist is trying to put to rest the idea that Kurt Cobain committed suicide by petitioning to have the grunge musician’s death scene photos released to prove it was a murder. Needless to say, Courtney Love is having none of this.

As The Blast notes, Richard Lee believes that Kurt Cobain did not commit suicide in April of 1994, but rather, was murdered. Of course, this is a topic that has received great debate since news of Cobain’s death broke, with some conspiracy theorists believing that Courtney Love, the family nanny, or even the CIA were responsible for the music legend’s demise.

Richard Lee has reportedly spent 23 years researching Cobain’s death, believing that it was a murder orchestrated by government officials, and back in 2014, sued the city of Seattle in an attempt to get the photos taken at the scene of his death released.

These photos reportedly show “Kurt Cobain’s body as it lay in the family residence after he was shot in the head”. While some of the more ‘family friendly’ photos taken at the scene have been released previously, the Seattle police department have kept the remaining photos under tight lock and key ever since. As one would expect, Lee lost his suit in 2015, but filed an appeal in 2016.

Now, both Courtney Love and Kurt’s daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, have filed their own response in order to try and prevent the photos from being released. Love had previously stated that Cobain’s death “was the most traumatic experience of my life.”

“It left me physically distraught and I continue to suffer emotionally from the loss of my husband to this day.”

Likewise, Frances Bean Cobain has previously spoke of the trauma she suffered, noting that while she has no memory of her father, she “has had to deal with the trauma of his death her entire life.”

Courtney Love also asserted that Lee’s actions make her feel for her safety, after he allegedly stalked and harassed the Hole frontwoman previously. “On one particular occasion, Mr. Lee even filmed himself chasing a limousine for several miles that he thought I was a passenger in,” she was reported as saying.

While some may find a macabre curiosity in the withheld photos, and conspiracy theorists may feel that these photos might hold some vital answers, we really have to wonder whether or not this whole process is really worth it. Maybe this is just the sort of thing that should be left alone?
