Following on from the recent news that there’s going to be a new sitcom entitled “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, Kurt Cobain will be spinning in his grave twice as fast today, with his name seeming to have once again been taken advantage of for commercial gains.

While we’ve all been waiting with baited breath for Courtney Love’s (most likely) expletive-ridden response to the new CBS show, she’s actually been involved in her own developments with the Nirvana legacy, but it’s not anything fans have been hoping for.

According to NME, the Nirvana frontman’s former wife is apparently behind a new Broadway show to be based on her and Cobain’s life. As if the likes of Mamma Mia sullying ABBA and Rock Of Ages an entire generation of 80s MTV hits wasn’t enough (and the less said about Green Day’s American Idiot musical the better).

Compounding this tragic news is that Love’s accomplice in the proposed musical is – of all people – the former manager of Britney Spears, who is currently suing his ex-pop star client.

Sam Lufti, who is currently suing Spears and her parents for “breach of contract, libel and unpaid management fees”, stated in court that he and Love “are currently working on a possible motion picture or Broadway musical based on the Nirvana catalogue, based on her and Cobain’s past life”.

The project is gladly only in “very early stages”, and we can’t help but hope for it to not get too far off the ground (and maybe end with Love shaving her hair, a la Britney Spears circa 2007).[do action=”pullquote”]Compounding this tragic news is that Love’s accomplice in the proposed musical is – of all people – the former manager of Britney Spears[/do]

Meanwhile Smells Like Teen Spirit, the new sitcom – not the iconic song – comes from the man behind The Big Bang Theory and 3rd Rock From The Sun, David Goetsch, and is hopefully only Nirvana-based by name, although the plot revolves around an “18-year-old budding entrepreneur who forgoes Harvard and instead opts to launch a multibillion-dollar internet company from his garage” with a little help from, you guessed it, “his 1990s indie-rock parents”.

Courtney Love, who usually jumps eagerly at any opportunity to criticise the misuse of her former husband’s legacy, earlier in the year she claimed The Muppets (yep, The Muppets) ‘raped’ Cobain’s memory in their recent film, her new musical doesn’t smell so much like teen spirit, but instead reeks of hypocrisy.

But then again, Love has never been one to shy away from harsh words, recently telling Lana Del Rey to ‘think about [her] vagina’ next time she covers Cobain’s ‘Heart Shaped Box’, which she claims is regarding her nether regions.

Stayed tuned for more cringeworthy exploitations of deceased musical legends…
