While some of us may cue for hours for front row tickets to a concert or obsessively troll ebay for obscure band posters, few take their love for musicians to dangerous, stalker levels. John Frusciante
The ex-guitarist of The Red Hot Chili Peppers had a restraining order placed against August Thomas when she began sending “overly emotional” emails and letters. The two met when Thomas had asked Fruciante for the rights to a biography on his sordid past.
Zakk Wylde
Black Label Society’s front man had to get a restraining order against his crazy neighbour after said neighbour left a sacrifice on his doorstep.
Kate Bush
Earlier this year, 32-year-old Frank Tarufo broke into Bush’s home with a $4500 diamond ring. His intention was to propose to the British singer. Tarufo, who is American was promptly deported after the police arrived.
All Time Low
In 2010 two teenage girls found All Time Low guitarist Alex Gaskarth’s personal address, showed up at his front door and demanded to be let in. The best part? Gaskwarth was doing the deed with his long time girlfriend when they arrived. When the teenage fans realized what was going on, they demanded photos.
Darren Lance Abbot (Dimebag Darrell)
Darrell Lance Abbott, also known as Dimebag Darrell, played the guitar for metal bands Pantera & Damageplan. Darrell was shot on stage, during a Damageplan concert in 2004. His killer was an ex Marine named Nathan Gale who also shot others at the concert. It is rumored that Darrell was killed because fan Nathan was angry Darrell had left Pantera.
Bring Me The Horizon
In October last year, a group of ‘skater kids’ stormed the stage at the band’s Salt Lake City Gig. The rioters began throwing bottles at the band then eventually rushed the stage and began fighting the band. The group was eventually removed from the stage and the show went on.
Moby
In 2011 a drugged up intruder entered Moby’s home and took a seat in his living room. Moby, being the kind-hearted weirdo he is, gave the intruder money for food and a change of clothes before asking him to leave. He later took to his personal blog and wrote "He took a lot of acid the night before, had seen my house from the street, and decided to pay an acid-inspired visit."
Drake
Earlier this year a woman who we can only assume is Drake’s biggest fan got his name tattooed in large font on her forehead. When asked about the fan Drake said, "I want to meet her and understand why and what happened. That's cool though; I feel you 100 percent. To me that is absolutely incredible." He did have some harsh words for the tattoo artist though saying; “fuck you to that tattoo artist, by the way, because you're an asshole for real.”
John Lennon
Maybe the most famous fan-murder of all time, John Lennon was shot by Mark Chapman out the front of his New York home in December 1980. Chapman was a longtime fan and had waited eagerly outside Lennon’s home to get an autograph. Lennon granted him the autograph and when he returned home a few hours later Chapman fired 5 bullets at Lennon, which resulted in his death. He then sat and waited for the police to arrive to take him away. He is still in prison today.
Chris Martin
Late last year, Martin revealed a strange fan experience. “I had a guy the other day who climbed over the gate of our house and started singing Coldplay songs to his friends on the street.” Martin didn’t call the cops but did tell the fan that he “wasn’t doing it right” and asked him to leave.
The Libertines
When the Libertines announced their farewell tour, Pete Doherty offered free band tattoos to anyone game enough to pull an all-nighter with them. Countless fans obliged and now have very permanent reminders of their night with rockstars.
Madonna
Back in 1996 a man named Robert Hoskins was convicted of stalking Madonna after he scaled a wall to her house and threatened to slit her throat. Hoskins was re-committed into a psychiatric hospital in February of this year.
Lil Wayne
Late last year two fans decided to camp out on Lil Wanyne’s lawn at his Miami house. All was harmless until the two male fans apparently started hitting on a female entering the property at which point Weezy told them to “fuck off”.
Britney Spears
Back in 2009, while Britney was on her ‘ Circus’ tour. A drunk fan rushed the stage during her rendition of ‘Womanizer’. The man was pulled off the stage by back up dancers and was later arrested for breach of peace.
Janet Jackson
Janet Jackson said she feared for her life after allegedly being stalked by Robert Cardner, who she says tried to sneak in her Saturday Night Live rehearsal with a box cutter, a large pair of scissors and a knife. In 2005, finally fed up after nine years of stalking, Jackson requested — and was granted — a restraining order against Cardner.
Bjork
The off-beat Icelandic princess Bjork was almost killed by a deranged Miami fan in 1996. Ricardo Lopez video-taped himself constructing an acid-bomb that he mailed to the singer and then took his own life on camera. Police were able to intercept the bomb before doing any harm.
Dolly Parton
Parton revealed that “loony” fan once left a baby on her doorstep.“ “We came home one day and there was a baby in a box at our gate with a note in it. The note said, ‘My name is Jolene, my momma has left me here and she wants you to have me.’ Of course, we all freaked out!”
Shania Twain
Twain has had issued with a stalker named John Palumbo who wrote her worrying letters, stalked her concerts and home and even turned up at her grandmother’s funeral.
Justin Bieber
A group of Beliebers as they’re called, stamped in Sydney while waiting for Justin crushing 8 fans and sending them to hospital as a result, the most seriously injury being a broken knee cap.
Danzig
In 2005 a crazed fan broke into Danzig’s tour bus and was discovered by the band’s bodyguard. The fan seemed harmless enough until the bodyguard discovered the fan had a pile of hardcore porn mags and had replaced the faces in the magazine with lead singer Glenn Danzig’s face.
Lady Gaga
In 2010 Lady Gaga began receiving letters from a Russian fan who wrote "you come to my dreams. I want to die and I want to die together with you.” Gaga promptly got a restraining order.
Justin Timberlake
JT had a restraining order placed on crazy stalker Karen McNeil after she broke into his home three times. McNeil had previously stalked Axl Rose in the 90s.
Eddie Vedder
The Pearl Jam singer wrote their song "Lukin" about a female stalker who claimed that Vedder had raped her, and that rape resulted in the birth of her son. All fabricated of course.
Paula Abdul
Abdul has been the victim of multiple stalkers, most notably the crazed fan, Paula Godspeed who, after auditioning and being rejected from American Idol, killed herself on Abdul’s property.
George Harrison
In 1999, armed intruder Michael Abram broke into the Harrisons’ home, attacked Harrison with a kitchen knife, inflicting seven stab wounds, puncturing a lung and causing head injuries before Harrison’s wife Olivia struck him repeatedly with a fireplace poker and a lamp. Abram believed he was "mission from God" to kill Harrison.
