In a brilliant marketing ploy for his new show What Would Diplo Do?, actor James Van Der Beek (of Dawson’s Creek fame) is absolutely skewering the super-producer’s ‘Random White Dude Be Everywhere’ persona with a new Twitter account – and his jabs have been very on point so far.

The bio for the @_diplo_ profile reads like something we’d hear from Diplo – “random white dude be everywhere, founder of smoothie wolf, feeding the streets since 1885. also in major lazer. new show on @viceland What Would Diplo Do?” – and it’s only the profile pic that really gives the game away, with the tweets pretty much nailing it.

Yep.

Seems legit.

This is getting scary.

Honestly, we’d expect at least a couple of people to be fooled by the account, especially considering it’s got the blue ‘verified’ tick next to it telling us that yes, according to Twitter, this is all legit. So, how did they manage that, exactly?

James Van Der Beek holds a sign saying "Yep it's me Diplo"

Fair play, Van Der Beek.

Funnily enough, the account hasn’t managed to get itself in trouble the way Diplo did several days ago when he made an ill-timed joke about applying to be in R Kelly’s alleged “sex cult”, before quickly deleting the tweet without an apology.
