If you frequently find yourself angered by the type of music that triple j play these days, refusing to believe that the crazy shift in perceived quality is not a result of the station losing their way but instead just a huge signpost that you are getting older and are no longer within the target triple j demographic… then have we got some great news for you, old timer!

Double J – which is totally targeted at you, by the way –  are playing the entire 1996 Hottest 100 countdown from noon on Saturday. We’re talking ‘El Scorcho’ by Weezer, we’re talking ‘Born Slippy NUXX’, we’re even talking ‘Scooby Snacks’ by Fun Lovin’ Criminals ‘cos we all know ‘Dogs Are the Best People’.

There will also be phrases and words said that you haven’t thought about for two decades, such as “Fini Scad”, “Stinkfist” and “Heartspark Dollarsign”. And did somebody say the ‘Mission Impossible’ theme recorded by the two (most) rubbish members of (rubbish band) U2? Well, someone sure voted for it, ‘cos it hit #68 that year.

Listen to triple j’s Hottest 100 of 1996 on Double J from 12pm, Saturday 28 January. In the meantime, here’s ‘In the Meantime’ by Spacehog, to get you pumped.
