Heard of a little disco-funk cut called, ‘Get Lucky’?

Well get ready to imbibe in its spiritual sequel – and we’re not talking Daft Punk’s ‘Lose Yourself To Dance’.

Pharrell Williams has once again teamed-up with everyone’s favourite Parisian pair of robots for another stab at chart-breaking glory in ‘Gust Of Wind’.

The collaboration, lifted from Williams’ new forthcoming solo album, features Pharrell dropping metaphors and come-ons in slinky, soulful mode while Daft Punk provide their trademark vocoder singing in the chorus. With its string-and-Chic-guitar style undercurrent and a groove as glitzy and contoured as a disco ball, it could easily pass as an outtake from Random Access Memories.

The track leaked overnight, with labels shutting down multiple streams and rips almost as fast as excited fans could upload them – but there’s still a few errant sources that have yet to be taken down.

The track is lifted from Pharrell’s new solo album G I R L, which follows in the tradition of the producer-songwriter’s collab-heavy 2013 with Daft Punk’s appearance on ‘Gust Of Wind’ being part of a star guest list for the record that includes Justin Timberlake, Alicia Keys, and Miley Cyrus.

The surprise announcement of G I R L, Pharrell’s first solo album since 2006’s In My Mind, was announced late last week – leaving just a two-week turnaround before its release next month via Sony’s Columbia Records.

In fact, American audiences are already hearing the new record in full as part of an advance stream through Apple’s iTunes Radio, as Pitchfork reports (and you can do the same – as long as you’re willing to update your iTunes to the latest version and switch to the American store).

Australian audiences will be among the first to hear Pharrell’s new material live, as G I R L drops just as he’s set to touch down to play Future Music Festival 2014 next month.

late addition to the Future 2014 lineup, Pharrell will perform on the main stage in the mid-afternoon – but only in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide.

The N*E*R*D/Neptunes renaissance man is up for the Best Song Oscar at this year’s Academy Awards ceremony – for ‘Happy‘ (also featured on G I R L) – and his attendance at the ceremony means he won’t be able to make the opening Brisbane and Perth legs of Future Music Festival, but he’s making up for it with headline sideshows. Details below along with the artwork and tracklisting for G I R L.
