SXSW 2014 Music Conference Sessions Announced

Following on from revealing the long list of bands invited to play the annual Austin, Texas music industry conference (including 11 Aussie acts), the SXSW has announced the first of its Music Conference Sessions. Over 120 sessions have been announced and cover a wide range of topics, from emerging industry trends to new ways of making money in the current music landscape being the primary issues. The variety of panels and talks for SXSW 2014 also includes topics on remixing, EDM, punk, brand building, copyright, TV and cinema licensing, internet radio, and much more. Courtney Barnett Announced For NXNE 2014

NXNE 2014, the Canadian sister event of SXSW, has revealed the first round of artists performing at the 2014 edition of the industry conference, including Australia’s very own Courtney Barnett. The Melbourne singer-songwriter is playing a live showcase at NXNE 2014 alongside the likes of St Vincent, Run The Jewels, Speedy Ortiz, Omar Souleyman, and Mac DeMarco. The Canadian conference placement caps what has been a breakout 2013 for Barnett, including cracking NME’s end-of-year albums and singles list, as well as major international attention from Stereogum, The Guardian, and Pitchfork – the latter naming ‘Avant Gardener’ in the Top 50 best songs of the year. Courtney Barnett is also up for multiple categories in Tone Deaf’s very own 4th Annual Readers Poll

Michael Bublé Christmas Album Returns To #1 For Third Year In A Row, Makes ARIA History

Canadian crooner Michael Bublé has made ARIA Chart history, with his holiday-themed album Michael Bublé’s Christmas returning to #1 on the Album Charts for a staggering third consecutive year in a row. The Christmas album was first released in October 2011, spending five weeks at #1 on the ARIA Album Chart, and in 2012 repeated the feat with another four weeks atop the charts. The album has since reached 10x Platinum sales Down Under. “Australia, you certainly know how to make this Canadian feel special!” said Bublé of the unprecedented achievement. “It’s truly an honour to know that so many of you are sharing moments with my music at this special time of year. Have yourself a Merry Christmas down under.”

Footstomp Music Partners With Nicky Bomba’s Management

Footstomp Music has stepped in to act as consultants for Bomba Management, the company of ARIA-nominated musician Nicky Bomba, which includes his solo work, Melbourne Ska Orchestra, and Bustamento. In 2014, Bomba’s regular manager Anna Wallace is taking maternity leave, leaving Graham Ashton and the Footstomp Music team to step in as MGMT Consultants. They will be working on a new single for Melbourne Ska Orchestra, along with national and international tours for Nicky Bomba and both groups in 2014, following high profile performances at this year’s BIGSOUND and AWME.  “It is great to have Asho and his team as part of the extended Bomba family,” said Bomba of the partnership. “Everything has been travelling leaps and bounds and I am looking forward to the adventures in 2014 and beyond!”
