The first acts of the Melbourne Music Week 2013 lineup have been announced.

The full program for this year’s Melbourne Music Week isn’t announced until Thursday 3rd October, but the first of the music lineup has been revealed and for those that like their music styles a little more cult, electronic, or just plain left-of-centre, this year’s bill is a doozy.

Leading the list of artists playing at this year’s edition, taking place from 15th to the 24th November, is a one-off performance from Pantha Du Prince and The Bell Laboratory at the Melbourne Recital Centre (presented by the Goethe Institut) playing from Elements Of Light“a sonic journey of space-opera grandeur and cathedral majesty.” Support will come from German glitch producer Oval. Other internationals headed to Melbourne Music Week this year are American electronic producer Nosaj Thing, LA multi-instrumentalist Chris Cohen, and scuzzy ‘thug rockers’ Personal and the Pizzas.

There’s plenty to enjoy on the local front too, playing opening night are local groups Boomgates and Montero who will be supporting New Zealand’s cult favourites, The Bats, and US indie rockers Sonny & the Sunsets. Yacht Club DJs, Gold Fields, Northeast Party House, City Calm Down, and SNKDKTL DJs are also on the lineup, playing for indie label I Oh You as part of this year’s edition of the ongoing Label Series.

Modular’s own Label Series event will present Canyons, Daniel Boyd, Roland Tings, Standish/Carlyon, Andras Fox, Shining Bird and Club Mod DJs. Other local highlights on the Melbourne Music Week 2013 music program are Beaches, New War, Neon Love, and more.

The Melbourne Recital Centre will host a one-off performance from the internationally acclaimed collaboration between Pantha du Prince and The Bell Laboratory. Pantha du Prince will bring a mesmerising symphony of electronics, percussion and bells.

Following on from last year’s successful pop-up Where?House venue, Melbourne Music Week 2013’s brand new flagship venue and entertainment space is ‘The Residence’. Founded in collaboration with the People’s Market, The Residence will be located on the banks of Birrarung Marr, and across nine days and ten nights will feature a selection of markets, food, and entertainment, as well as cutting edge video mapping and light installations.

The Residence will also provide a unique music program for each day and night of Melbourne Music Week, curated by 18 music industry figures, such as labels Mistletone and Modular, The Operatives and Melbourne record store institution Polyester Records, who are celebrating their 30th anniversary.

Further information on Melbourne Music Week 2013 is available at the official website. Selected pre-sale tickets are available at early bird prices from midday today (Wednesday 4th September) over at moshtix.
