In case you weren’t aware, the highly influential Lollapalooza festival is currently underway in Chicago, and with a lineup featuring Arcade Fire, The Killers, and Blink-182, you’d understand why fans were shocked to receive a marathon surprise show from the Foo Fighters, who weren’t even on the bill.
As Consequence Of Sound reports, the group had announced their surprise Friday night show a mere two days before it was set to occur, with fans scrambling to find tickets to get them into the 1,100 capacity Metro, in Chicago.
The band treated fans to a marathon three-and-a-half hour set which featured a career-spanning 32 songs (a far cry from Oasis’ Liam Gallagher, who left the Lollapalooza stage after four songs on Friday). In addition to showcasing songs off their upcoming Concrete And Gold album, the group also performed a number of covers, including Jane’s Addiction’s ‘Mountain Song’, for which they were joined by Jane’s Addiction frontman, and Lollapalooza founder, Perry Farrell.
Thankfully, some kind souls in the audience managed to capture footage of the event, and posted them online. While the Foo Fighters (and Lollapalooza itself) still haven’t nailed down Aussie tour dates, we can only hope that the tour is going to include some of these three-and-a-half hour shows, because they look like one of the best live shows you’ve ever seen.
