You’d think that after just releasing their long-awaited ninth record, Concrete And Gold, that the Foo Fighters would take a bit of a break when it comes to releasing new music. Instead, the group have surprised fans with the release of another new tune, and this time it’s for a good cause.

The new track, titled ‘Soldier’, is an outtake from the sessions for Concrete And Gold, and is set to appear on a new compilation to benefit America’s Planned Parenthood organisation, as NME reports.

Contemplative and somewhat subdued, ‘Soldier’ tends to harken back to some of the group’s early work, lacking some of the powerful riffs and singalong choruses that the band have since become known for.

The compilation that the track comes from, 7-Inches For Planned Parenthood, was originally announced back in April, but has now been made available for streaming.

The physical release of the compilation will take the form of a box-set filled with seven inch records, and will feature tracks by artists such as Bon Iver, CHVRCHES, Sleater-Kinney, St. Vincent, Sharon Van Etten, The National’s Bryce Dessner and Matt Berninger, and an unreleased live track by Elliott Smith.

If you’re keen on picking up a copy of the box-set, which aims to help those affected by Donald Trump’s cuts to healthcare and the Planned Parenthood organisation, you can do so by heading over to the 7-Inches For Planned Parenthood website.

While the Foo Fighters are just a few months away from returning to Australia for a number of stadium shows with Weezer, we don’t think there’s a huge chance that the band will be throwing this one into the setlist. That being said, ‘Soldier’ would definitely turn into a pretty decent cigarette-lighter-waving tune that would see a few punters link arms and sway back and forth in the crowd.
