As far as famous modern musicians from Detroit go, it’s rather easy to draw a blank after you’ve mentioned Eminem and Jack White, but if there’s one thing we doubt would happen rather often, it’s the two of them getting mistaken for each other. Well, as we’ve witnessed on a recent US game show, that’s exactly what happened.

Just days after Jeopardy! contestant lost thousands after mispronouncing Coolio’s ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’ as ‘Gangster’s Paradise’, another contestant on the same show has made a similar mistake.

Upon picking the category of ‘Vinyl’, host Alex Trebek asked, “A recent vinyl resurgence has been aided by this musician, who built a pressing plant in his Detroit hometown.” Quickly, contestant Julie chimed in by answering “Eminem,” before being told that her answer was incorrect.

Now, let’s be fair, if someone asks you about a famous Detroit musician, you could be forgiven for spouting Eminem almost instantly. After all, Eminem’s 8 Mile was all about his burgeoning rap career in his home state of Michigan. But what makes this mistake even more confounding is the fact that it was accompanied by the following visual clue:

Detroit musician Jack White, and not Eminem.

Yes, the question was accompanied by a picture of Jack White, portraying him looking nothing like Eminem (and somewhat like a Johnny Depp lookalike’s mugshot). So we might just need to chalk this one up as a rather simple slip of the tongue for poor Julie.

Meanwhile, following the release of two new songs, Jack White has revealed that his new album, Boarding House Reach, will be released on March 23rd, and is set to contain a number of surprises, including a spoken-word accompaniment by Aussie muso C.W. Stoneking on one track.
