Gang of Youths frontman David Le’aupepe and songwriter Gordi are clearly great mates, and have an easy rapport, which makes watching the Facebook Live Q&A they ran for fans last night a special pleasure.

The duo gave a bunch of advice and inside info to their fans, as well as some tips for anyone considering a career in music. Dave’s first piece of advice? “Don’t expect to make a living from it,” and you won’t be disappointed – but don’t give up, either.

As he admits, he feels like he just fell into where he is right now, and wasn’t planning a career in music. In the end, they hit the right notes and have won themselves a big fanbase, but it definitely wasn’t something he was banking on.

They also give plenty of tips on songwriting, mental health, and just life in general, as well as more lighthearted topics like fighting a lion with your bare hands, which literature buff Dave of course manages to take to a mythological place.

Gordi’s anticipated debut album is out tomorrow (although fans who ordered the vinyl may find they’re not getting exactly what they were after), while Gang of Youths’ sophomore album Go Farther In Lightness is out now, having been named triple j’s Feature Album last week.

To hear it live, you can catch them playing at the ski trip and music festival in one, Snowtunes, next week, and after that they’ll be heading out on a tour of Australia, the U.S and the U.K. next month – dates can be found here.

Gang of Youth and Gordi answer plenty of great questions from fans in their live Q&A
