It doesn’t seem that long ago that everyone was riding invisible horses to the sounds of ‘Gangnam Style’ and shouting out the words as if any of us knew what they were, but it’s actually been five years since the planet-conquering video was released and became the first to hit a billion views on YouTube.

It’s taken a long time, then, for another track to finally overtake it, and as NPR reports, it took the might of the Fast and Furious franchise to do it, with PSY’s hit having finally lost its crown to the combined forces of Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth.

The track, ‘See You Again’, was released on the Fast 7 soundtrack as a tribute to the late Paul Walker, who died midway through filming in an unrelated car crash, and is currently closing in on a new high benchmark of three billion views. The film franchise has already turned former wrestler The Rock into the biggest star in Hollywood, so it’s only fitting that it’s also turned Wiz Khalifa into the biggest artist on YouTube.

‘See You Again’ has currently squeaked ahead by a fairly insignificant million views, but unless people suddenly get hit by a wave of nostalgia for PSY’s colourful antics, it’s safe to say that the lead will only continue to grow. As NPR notes, however, Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s ‘Despacito’ is also looming at the 2.5 billion mark, and looks poised to take the crown eventually.

Ridiculous numbers all-round, really, and if you’re one of the relatively few people who have managed to avoid the new king so far, you can check it out below.
