Enigmatic and reclusive post-rock legends Godspeed You! Black Emperor, have announced the release of their sixth record, Luciferian Towers, set to drop September 22nd.

According to a typically verbose and dramatic press release from the group’s label, Constellation Records, the new record was made “in the midst of communal mess, raising dogs and children. Eyes up and filled with dreadful joy – we aimed for wrong notes that explode, a quiet muttering amplified heavenward. We recorded it all in a burning motorboat.”

In addition to a number of short descriptors of the record’s four tracks, the group state that the record was “informed by” a number of “grand demands”, including “an end to foreign invasions,” “an end to borders,” “the total dismantling of the prison-industrial complex,” “healthcare, housing, food and water acknowledged as inalienable human right,” and “the expert fuckers who broke this world never get to speak again.”

Godspeed You! Black Emperor last visited Australia in 2016 in support of their record Asunder, Sweet and Other Distress, following their debut Aussie tour in 2013, which saw them promote their first studio record since their 2010 reformation, ‘Allelujah! Don’t Bend! Ascend!. In addition to being highly regarded as one of the greatest post-rock groups of all time, the group are also famous for their immense mystery, and for releasing one of music’s greatest ‘lost’ albums.

While there’s no word yet on whether or not the new record will result in yet another Aussie tour, fans of the group will undoubtedly be counting down the days until they can yet again witness an intensely emotional performance by the critically-acclaimed group.
