A few months ago Damon Albarn mentioned casually that there was 40-45 songs that didn’t make the final cut for the Humanz album, which he plans to finish and release one at a time. “I can stay in the game for at least another 18 months, I reckon,” he told Zane Lowe.

The first of these to see the light of day is ‘Sleeping Powder’, a song which begins like a mid-career Blur song, all stately harpsichord and world-weary vocals, before fuzzing into a blurry dance tune.

It’s really quite great, and a good sign that those 40-45 tunes weren’t left on the cutting-room floor due to quality reasons.
