We’re sure Colbert and his show are doing fine as far as money goes, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t need to tighten the purse strings a little here and there.

So, when Green Day offered to perform their seminal hit ‘Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)’, Colbert and Co. realised that they could save themselves from shelling out a little cash by having them substitute the lyrics for something straight out of the public domain.

That’s how we end up with this version that takes the classic melody and pairs it with the ‘Camptown Races’, losing just a little of the original’s trademark melancholy among all of the “doo dah day”s.

It apparently kicks off a new series of cost-cutting segments for Colbert, so we’ll have to tune in next week to catch Charli XCX mashed with ‘We Wish You A Merry Christmas’. Until then, check out Green Day below.
