Introducing New Metal Label Bullet Proof

Bullet Proof is a brand new label focussing on all genres of heavy and hard rock music, launching in early December with distribution handled by Universal Music Australia / Caroline Distribution in Australian and New Zealand with a view to expanding to South East Asia and Japan in future. Bullet Proof has three artists with new releases signed to its roster, with many more to be announced leading into 2014. Leading the Bullet Proof label family is Kill Devil Hill, the US supergroup featuring Rex Brown (Pantera, Down), Vinny Appice (Black Sabbath, Heaven & Hell, Dio, Ozzy Osbourne), Dewey Bragg (Pissing Razors), and Mark Zavon (Ratt, WWWIII) releasing their new album Revolution Rise and self-titled debut getting a local release through the new label. Also on the roster are Aussie five-piece Dawn Heist, and their Catalyst LP, and New Zealand juggernaut 8 Foot Sativa, and their eight years in the making album The Shadow Masters. An official Bullet Proof website is launching soon. 

Create/Control Announces International Label Partnerships

Create/Control has partnered with three noteworthy international independent labels as it continues to develop its goal of being a ‘label for labels’ through the development of its online platform. The first of the three labels is Canadian indie Arts & Crafts, which celebrated its 10th Anniversary this year and is currently home to more than 40 artists including Feist, Broken Social Scene, Stars, and emerging favourites The Darcys and Timber Timbre. Next in the Create/Control deal is eclectic US roster Vagrant, which has released albums from the likes of Bombay Bicycle Club, The 1975, Active Child, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros and many more. Rounding out the international label partnership is LA-bred label, Innovative Leisure, which will issue releases from Nosaj Thing, Nick Waterhouse, De Lux, and newsest signee BADBADNOTGOOD, in 2014. “It’s great to finally have Create/Control representing both direct signings and labels. 2014 looks very exciting from where we are standing” affirms managing director Paul Piticco. 

Brody Dalle Signs To Caroline For Debut Solo Album

Brody Dalle, frontwoman of The Distellers and Spinnerette (and Mrs. Joshua Homme) will release her first solo album through Caroline Records in 2014. The LA-via-Melbourne artist worked with Queens Of The Stone Age and Arctic Monkeys producer Alain Johannes for the record, which features a slew of guest stars such as Garbage star Shirley Manson and Nick Valensi of The Strokes. Album release date, title and tracklisting are all forthcoming but Aussie fans can be among the first to hear the new material as Brody Dalle opens as special guest on the forthcoming Queens Of The Stone Age & Nine Inch Nails co-headline Australian Tour. Gossling Signs International Deals

The Melbourne-based Gossling has signed international deals with UK label Polydor and booking agents Primary Talent. The news comes off the back of Gossling’s recently released debut LP Harvest Of Gold and scoring an invite to SXSW 2014. The international deals place Gossling within Polydor’s artist stable among the likes of Lana Del Rey, Haim, Laura Marling and Ellie Goulding. Primary Talent booking magnates Nick Holroyd and Matt Bates – the team behind Alt-J and Azealia Banks, among others, will represent Gossling in the live arena.

APRA Gets First New Chairperson In 20 Years

Following on from gifting Aussie musicians with a combined $243.5 million payday, APRA is getting its first new Chair in two decades, with Jenny Morris fulfilling the position after Mike Perjanik stepped down from the role, but remaining on board as a non-executive director of the performance royalties collecting agency. The New Zealand-born Morris, who is a successful ARIA-winning musician, vocalist, and Order Of Australia 2010 recipient, will take over the role as Mushroom’s Ian Jones returns as APRA’s Deputy Chair. The news arrives following the annual general meeting where Morris, Don McGlashan, Bob Aird and Matthew Caper were returned to the Board Of Writer Directors, while AMCOS also received a new Director, in Kobalt’s Simon Moor, elected to the board alongside David Albert and Phillip Walker. (via TheMusic)

Muscles Becomes First Signing Of New Company Alphabetics

Alphabetics is a new company that combines the talents and resources of management company Amplifire and events services company Treats Collective. Along with the foundation of the new company, one-man electronic music machine Muscles has been confirmed as the first new management signing of Alphabeats.The ‘Ice Cream’ and ‘Sweaty’ hit-maker will return in 2014 with a new album and tour plans, joining a roster that includes work with Last Dinosaurs, The Jungle Giants, and previous clients Pete Murray and The Audreys. Alphabetics will take on bookings for iconic live music venue The Arena, while on the events front, the company will continue to develop Treats Collective’s client list, which previously includes Triple J, VICE, Spotify and more.
