Jack White is gunning for an entry into the Guinness Book Of World Records with the “Fastest Ever Record” for Record Store Day.

To make his mark on this year’s annual celebration of independent record stores and all things vinyl, set for Saturday 19th April, White is planning to make the fastest ever release – from recording to printing to store – in history, in a special event to be hosted at his very own Third Man Records HQ in Nashville.

The singer-guitarist-producer will take to the stage of Third Man’s ‘Blue Room’ stage at 10am on Record Store Day, as Billboard reports, for a special live performance of the title track of his newly announced second solo album Lazeretto that will be recorded direct to acetate.

As soon as the former White Stripe and Raconteur finishes playing, the acetate masters will be whisked over to local record plant United Record Pressing who immediately begin punching out limited edition 45rpm singles with artwork on the sleeve featuring photography taken from White’s live performance. The whole process should ensure the prolific 38-year-old’s entry into the Guinness Book Of World Records…

The limited edition ‘Lazaretto’ singles will then be rushed back to Third Man Records hot off the presses for sale, and will be continued to be printed and sold as long as there’s a queue of fans ready to buy them.

The whole six-hour process, from Jack White’s 10am ‘Lazaretto’ performance to picking up the RSD exclusive at 4pm (hopefully), should ensure the prolific 38-year-old’s entry into the Guinness Book Of World Records, an ambition he’s been looking to fulfil since slamming the “elitist organisation” in 2012 for rejecting The White Stripes’ bid for the “shortest concert ever” back in 2007.

The record-keeping organisation then responded to the plucky musician, issuing him a challenge with White taking up the offer by attempting the bizarre “most metaphors in a single concert” world record.

As for the Record Store Day bid, while fans are awaiting their copies of the “fastest record ever” to be pressed they’ll be entertained at Third Man Records with an afternoon set from Michigan trio Whirlwind Heat, playing their first gig since 2006, to commemorate their Do Rabbits Wonder album (produced by Jack White) getting a long-awaited reissue on coloured vinyl for Record Store Day 2014. Full ticket info and details to the historic event are available here.

Jack White is also releasing the latest addition to his exhaustive discographyLazaretto, this June. The follow-up to his 2012 solo debut Blunderbuss will be released through Third Man Records and XL Recordings, also available as an ultra-limited edition set featuring vinyl, demos, a hardbound book, and more.
