In a match up we never knew we wanted, but desperately want more of now, Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme and Florence Welch of Florence + The Machine have teamed up to sing a cover of ‘Jackson’, made famous by Johnny Cash and June Carter’s 1963 cover, for MTV Unplugged.

The performance was recorded for MTV last month and will air on April 8th, after which the audio recording will be released on CD and for digital download, while a DVD of the entire concert will also be produced.

The classic tune was actually neither written by Cash or Carter, and is about a married couple who find that the “fire” has gone out of their relationship. Both partners desire to travel to a city named “Jackson” where they each expect to be welcomed as someone far better suited to the city’s lively night life than the other is.

Although the tune has become with synonomous with Cash and Carter, they weren’t the only notable musicians to record a cover.

Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood released a version in July 1967 that reached #14 on the US Charts. Jenny Morris and INXS recorded a version together in 1983, and even Johnny Cash himself sang the duet with Miss Piggy when he appeared on The Muppet Show.

Florence + The Machine are due to travel to Australia next month as part of the Vivid Live festival, as well as play a few select headline show across the country.
