A 17-year-old, detained by police earlier this year, has now been found guilty of attempting to plot terror at a Justin Bieber concert in Cardiff on June 30th.

As reported by NME, the teen apparently ‘searched online for details about the event’s security procedures and had a copy of the concert poster saved to his computer’. The police also found a ‘claw hammer, kitchen knife and, a martyrdom letter’ in his school bag and within the letter, it was declared he was a “soldier of the Islamic State”

The teen himself has denied that he was preparing to commit acts of terrorism and told the court he was merely “curious about ISIS” and had a “stupid interest in the gory”. Further defending his actions, he went on to describe how he just “wanted to see how easy it was for people who had an interest in terrorism to go online and get information because the police and the government are trying to crack down on terrorism and radicalization.”

The unnamed teen will remain in custody until a sentencing hearing early next year.
