Yep, you read that right. Pop is eating itself with Katy Perry impersonating fellow songstress Florence Welch (of Florence of the Machine) during a sketch on Saturday Night Live. Perry was the guest host for Saturdays show, joining an impressive list of musicians who have also hosted including Elton John, Jon Bon Jovi, Justin Timberlake, and Britney Spears.

During one of the skits, Perry does an impersonation of Welch promoting a fake song ‘The Dog Trial Is Over’, lampooning Welch’s actual second single ‘Dog Days Are Over’. The skit might not be that funny, but Perry’s impersonation is so bang on we had to do a double take.

It’s no secret however that Perry and Welch both admire each other as they’ve each gushed about the other in numerous interviews. In an interview with USA Today earlier this year Welch spoke about Perry’s second studio LP Teenage Dream saying “I had Firework on repeat and listened to it over and over. It’s chemical, it’s undeniable. It’s irresistible pop, no matter what your taste is.”

The two singers have also crossed paths at Abbey Road studio in London. “She was coming out of the toilet,” Welch says. “I was so excited, I screamed and fell on the floor. She was lovely to me. There’s something about her music that feels really honest. She totally wears her heart on her sleeve, and she really wants to reach out and make people feel good. She’s a born entertainer.”

Welch recently has been fending off criticism of her latest music video that some have been calling racist for her portrayal of the Voodoo religion.
