King Gizzard released their second album of 2016 last week, Murder of the Universe, and would have been hoping to go one better on the charts and top the #2 spot they managed with their last LP, Flying Microtonal Banana. Unfortunately, two of pop’s biggest names are lingering at the top of the charts right now, meaning that the Gizz had to settle for a very respectable bronze medal in the album’s debut week.

Ed Sheeran, of course, continued his reign of terror at the top of the official ARIA Album Chart, with his almighty LP ÷ chalking up its 14th week, while Lorde’s sophomore album Melodrama nabbed second. They did manage to beat out Imagine Dragons new album on its debut, as well as Nickelback’s Feed The Machine, which somehow landed in 5th this week.

The acclaimed Flying Microtonal Banana missed out on the #1 earlier this year courtesy of the eighth album by fellow Aussies The Waifs, but managed to take out the honours for #1 vinyl record on the US Billboard charts, which suits them rather nicely and can hopefully be repeated this time around.

Regardless, with The Smith Street Band expressing their love this week and a fanbase dedicated enough to crowd surf them to the actual surf and then back to the venue, we’re sure they won’t be too upset at losing out to a couple of the biggest records in pop.
