King Gizzard fans are without a doubt some of the most dedicated in music, even as far as the U.K., where they recently crowd-surfed lead singer Stu off the stage, down to the nearby ocean, and all the way back to the venue.

Having said that, the band are just as dedicated to their fans, promising them five albums in a single year and playing eight shows in a row in the same bloody venue, so that people need never listen to another band again as long as they live.

Now, some rural Gizzheads are hoping that dedication extends to the Blue Mountains in NSW, Music Feeds reports, as they run a campaign to coax the Gizz all the way to their sleepy town of Katoomba, to put its music community on the map for other bands, and also just to “rock out”.

The slightly clumsy hashtag ‘#KGizz4Katoomba’ and a Change.org petition are picking up steam, and even rising local star Julia Jacklin has lent her voice to the push, along with Mayor Mark Greenhill and local community radio.

“King Gizzard coming to Katoomba is about more than just playing a gig,” says the petition, which so far has 109 signatures, but it’s more about the sentiment behind it than sheer volume. “It will show how much support there is for regional touring and connecting with rural creative people.

“We think King Gizzard will love Katoomba as much as Katoomba loves King Gizzard,” it continues. “We have a thriving local music and arts scene… but Australia’s bands keep passing us by.

“We want to make Katoomba a must stop destination for all major bands in Australia and overseas, starting with King Gizzard and the Wizard Lizard.”

King Gizz are obviously pretty busy, recording their third album of the five they’ve promised this year, as well as gearing up for sets at Splendour, Spilt Milk, and of course their very own Gizzfest. And while we’re not suggesting that they should dash across the country at the whim of every town that asks them to, we’d love to see their campaign efforts rewarded.

Check out their pitch below, featuring what seems like half of the local music community fiercely proclaiming their desire for “Gizzard Wizard”.
