In case you somehow missed it, Monday night just passed saw Shadow Infrastructure Minister Anthony Albanese aka DJ Albo dropped DJ set in Melbourne, and despite the amount of fears and jeers of “Dad behind the decks”, Albo demonstrated he has pretty good taste in music.

Performing at the Carlton venue the Bella Union in support of Albanese’s friend and comrade Andrew Giles, Member for Scullin, DJ Albo spun a pretty sweet set that heavily favoured the worlds of ’80s new wave and dance, as well as ’90s alt-rock, not to mention sprinlkles of Aussie classics, as Noise11 reports.

To instil the worst post-FOMO feelings in you all, the guys at Noise11 have the entire setlist from DJ Albo’s big set which sees classic tracks from the UK like New Order, The Cure, The The, Buzzcocks, Morrissey and The Jam whilst paying homage to alternative rock lords including Nirvana, PJ Harvey, The Breeders, The Pixies, tossing in the occasional banger/maybe taking the piss with Taylor Swift and The Black Eyed Peas.

Interestingly, Albanese turned a fair few Aussie tunes too, including works from The Saints, Spiderbait, The Hummingbirds, Midnight Oil, Hilltop Hoods, Hunters & Collectors, Fall Joys and Celibate Rifles.

The politician commented on his song choice to the guys at Noise11, “my taste reflects mainly 1980s and ’90s independent music, with an emphasis on bands I saw live when the live music scene was vibrant and thriving.” According to FasterLouder, Albo saw Nirvana live at Big Day Out in 1992 claiming “it went off”, so it’s no surprise the kind of tunes he selected to soundtrack the evening.
