Back in late 2015, the world of music was rocked by the news that Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister had passed away at the age of 70. Now, close to two years since his passing, the veteran rocker’s final recording has been released.

While Motörhead’s most recent release, Under Cover, happened to collect a large amount of cover versions by the band, including one of the band’s final studio recordings, a cover of David Bowie’s ‘Heroes’, it turns out that Lemmy’s final studio appearance happened to be as part of a song by rock musician Chris Declercq.

Recorded only six months before Lemmy’s death, Chris Declercq’s ‘We Are The Ones’ features the legendary muso at his trademark best. With gruff vocals and powerful riffs, the track serves as a rather fitting endnote to one of rock music’s most infamous lives.

“You opened a door no one else wanted to open for me,” Declercq explained in a statement addressed to Lemmy. “You allowed me to share precious moments with you as a composer, musician and friend. By helping me, you showed that you were the most generous, humble and honest man. I am honoring your gift every day and you are forever in my heart.”

Chris Declercq, who first met Lemmy back in 2005, also explained how he decided to finish mixing the track at Studio 606 in California. Owned by Dave Grohl, himself a close friend of Lemmy, Declercq noted that it felt right to finish the song there.

‘We Are The Ones’ is set to appear on Chris Declercq’s debut studio album, which also features appearances by a number of famous musicians, including members of Iron Maiden and Alice Cooper’s band. While a release date has not yet been announced, considering the fact that he managed to get Lemmy involved in this album, we’re pretty excited to see what other surprises might be in store for us.
