The estate of Prince are gearing to release an expanded version of his magnum opus, Purple Rain, this Friday, which will feature eleven previously-unheard tracks from the album’s sessions.

Released this weekend to nicely coincide with (American) Father’s Day is Prince’s own paternal ode: ‘Father’s Son’.

Serious Prince fans may recognise the song’s melody from either a 90-second instrumental section in the film’s score, or as the foundation of another Purple Rain track, ‘Computer Blues.’

Regardless, it’s a damn good song, and yet another indicator of his prolific output during the era.
