Having just dropped their own love song in ‘Papernote’, Sydney electro-pop outfit Tigertown are giving us a bit of a glimpse into the love songs that inspired it.

‘Papernote’ is a true tale packing all of the elements needed to create a love song – a heartbreak, love letters, and Parisian cafés. Tigertown knew what they were doing when they produced this track, imbuing it with a sentiment sourced from the array of love songs you’ll find below – both happy and sad.

If you’re feeling lovesick for Tigertown, fear not. Currently on tour in Europe with Panic! At The Disco, they’ll be returning soon a run of shows across the country next month, dates below. In the meantime, from their hearts to your ears, here are Tigertown’s favourite love tracks.

ALEXI

 Heroes – David Bowie

One of the greatest songs of all time and just a perfect love song that talks about overcoming boundaries for love.

Hoppípolla – Sigur Rós

I don’t really know what this song is about because most of the lyrics are in Icelandic and the rest is in their made up language, Hopelandic. I chose it because it captures love purely through music.

ELODIE

Blower’s Daughter – Damien Rice

I think this is a sad love song but unrequited love songs are my favourite ones. It’s haunting, it’s painful, there is a mystery that I can’t quite put my finger on but it makes my heart ache.

Make You Feel My Love – Bob Dylan

Charlie and I sang this song at Alexi’s wedding. It’s just a beautiful song of devotion. The message is simple, I love you, I’ll do anything for you, I’ll always be there for you even though “you haven’t made your mind up yet”. It also does HURT to hear Adele belt it out like only she can.

CHARLIE

Something In The Way She Moves – James Taylor

Chris and I would always listen and make out to James Taylor Records but this was always one that really set the mood.

Songbird – Fleetwood Mac

I’ve always loved this song and Fleetwood Mac has always been a huge inspiration for me and we had our first wedding dance to this song.

CHRIS

Sew My Name – Josh Pyke

Before Charlie and I had started the band, I was away a lot, and this song paints such a beautiful picture of what it feels like to have to always be leaving the one you love. Josh is such a genius with lyrics, ‘when I go I think I’m gonna sew my name into all your clothes, cause you have always worn me well’.

In Your Eyes – Peter Gabriel

Such a dramatic, yet honest love song. It speaks of a love that’s passed just romance. Almost like it has to be about someone that he’s been with for years and years. It’s also just one of the best melodies ever.
