We have to be honest, our favourite triple j Like A Version covers are of pop songs or pop covers of rock songs. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with a rock band giving a shout out to to their fellow axe-wielding brothers and sisters.

But there’s something about experiencing a song you’re used to hearing in a completely different style be transformed into something entirely new and unexpected. Like when Art vs Science turned ‘Enter Sandman’ into an incredible, spacey synth-funk adventure.

Likewise, Matt Corby entered the triple j studios this morning to lay down a soulful, jazzy, funky cover of the Australian pop classic ‘Chains’ by our beloved Tina Arena. Corby took the powerful original and turned it into something completely new.

We recently ran through a few of our favourite Like A Version covers of the year so far, including Sarah Blasko’s incredible David Bowie cover, Guy Sebastian linking up with Paces, and Hey Geronimo mashing up Courtney Barnett and Regurgitator.
