Tool’s frontman has never been shy of expressing his opinion, but he’s been particularly vocal of late as the world continues to be swept up in anti-Trump sentiment and ever-increasing tension.

As Ultimate Guitar reports, Maynard took the opportunity to speak to fans at Tool’s recent show in NYC about who their real enemy is in the current political climate – and it certainly isn’t Donald Trump.

“I’ve got some good news and I’ve got some bad news…” he begins. “I’m just gonna tell you both of ’em at the same time.

“Fox News, Huffington Post, the Left, the Right, Trump, Breitbart, Facebook… none of these things are your enemy. Your enemy is ignorance – that’s the fight!

“If you disagree with that, this next song’s for you!” he finished, before launching into ‘Opiate’.

The speech comes days after previous statements in which the Army veteran expressed his firm beliefs that we need to have a certain respect for authority, including law enforcement and military.

“As artists, we interpret and report, that’s our job. We are merchants of emotion. We have the privilege to do that because of active and former law enforcement and military defending our right to do so”, he told the crowd.

“Those of you who are law enforcement and military, your job is to defend our right to act like whining, entitled snowflake a–holes, myself being one. Snowflakes, your job is to respect them fucking doing that for you. Divided we fall. Don’t believe the hype dumb-dumbs, we’re all in this together.”

Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic has also expressed his disappointment in recent days at the approach people are taking to engaging with politics, lashing out at “obsessives” and “crybabies” who, through their “self-indulgence” and shallow attacks on Trump, are only serving to drown out the rest of the conversation.
