If you’ve been lucky enough to see thrash metal legends Megadeth recently, you may have noticed that frontman Dave Mustaine wasn’t quite feeling up to scratch. Now, the metal guitarist has opened up about why that was, stating he’s been quite sick for a while.

In recent months, Megadeth have been out on tour in support of their 15th studio record, Dystopia. Reception to their new record was so great that it even won the group their first Grammy Award win, despite the fact that Metallica’s ‘Master Of Puppets’ was played over the P.A. as the group took to the stage.

Nevertheless, Dave Mustaine and the rest of the band have been spending quite a bit of time on the road, with their tour recently wrapping up in Texas last week.

Now, as Metal Injection reports, Mustaine recently took to Twitter to address questions from fan, alerting them to the fact that he has Lyme disease.

After a fan asked Dave the innocuous question of “How is the touring between touring and home,” Dave responded by admitting that he “needed to come”, stating that he received a tick bite that made him sick for a few months.

After another fan implored Mustaine to be wary of Lyme disease, Dave issued another Tweet confirming “that’s what it is,” before reassuring fans that he’s okay though.

For those wondering, Lyme disease is an infectious disease that is spread by tick bites. A disease that is predominantly found in the northern hemisphere, it is usually characterised by a rash, fever, fatigue, muscle and joint pain, chills, and swollen lymph nodes.

Recommended treatment usually includes antibiotics and rest, so there’s a chance that Dave Mustaine might just be taking it easy for a little while. Regardless, all the best to Dave Mustaine, we hope you make a swift recovery!
