The mighty Metallica are back with a brand new album, Hardwired… To Self Destruct, which has been copping nothing short of glowing reviews, with many saying it’s a return to form for the band and recalls the fire and spirit of their 1980s output.

“There are almost no breaks in the pure mayhem of tasty guitar licks, fast-paced blasting drums and powerful vocals. For an eight-year wait, the album has absolutely lived up to the hype from Metallica and metal fans alike, just awaiting to see what the band had in store for so long,” wrote Tone Deaf reviewer Elvis Walsh.

So we know the album is sweet, what about tour plans?

Well, according to AJ Maddah, who would be one to know such things, ‘tallica fans ought to be saving their coin because the biggest of the Big Four are set to tour Australia in the new year. “START SAVING YOUR PEENNIES AUSTRALIA!” the Soundwave founder wrote, along with the hashtags #Metallica and #2017.

It was Maddah who last brought Metallica Down Under to headline Soundwave 2013. However, with Soundwave gone and no other big-time heavy metal festivals yet announced, it looks like we could be witnessing Metallica’s first Australian headline dates since 2010’s World Magnetic tour.

Frontman James Hetfield recently stated that the band plan to be on the road for at least the next two years and the band’s tour in support of Death Magnetic did not come to Australia until the tail end of the World Magnetic tour, which kicked off in 2008.
