For fans of MGMT, it’s been a little bit quiet in recent years. Since the band last released their self-titled album back in 2013, live performances have been sparse, and new music hasn’t exactly been forthcoming. Now, the band have become active once again, seemingly promising the release of new music.

Back in 2015, MGMT Tweeted that 2016 was set to see the release of new music by the group, but after nothing surfaced, the band later clarified that they meant that 2017 was when new music was set to arrive.

In May of this year, the group performed at the Beale Street Music Festival in Memphis, Tennessee – their first show in over a year. Performing a few new songs, MGMT then claimed their new record, Little Dark Age, was on its way, before stating in June that the record was now finished.

Now, as NME reports, the band have taken to Twitter to share a couple of Tweets which seem to indicate that new music is set to arrive at almost any moment.

First, the group shared an image titled ‘Little Dark Age’, containing lyrics to what appears to the new record’s title track. Then two hours later, MGMT shared a ten second video of instrumental music, accompanied by the same ‘Little Dark Age’ hashtag that the previous video featured.

Obviously, it appears as though the group are using Twitter right now to tease new music from their new record, but at this stage, without any official word from the band, it’s all speculation. However, with the group’s renewed activity, the chances of us having new music from the group real soon is pretty high.

While there hasn’t been much word at all from MGMT in the last couple of years, we did manage to see an awesome tribute to the band, with Tash Sultana giving us an absolutely phenomenal performance of the group’s breakthrough hit ‘Electric Feel’ for triple j’s Like A Version back in February.
