Midnight Oil’s enormous ‘Great Circle’ world tour is about to fire up in Brazil, before heading just about everywhere else in the world, and they’re releasing a series of equally-massive box sets to match, collecting up hours and hours of classic and unreleased material.

Each of the box sets comes in its own miniature oil drum, aside from the first, which brings together all of their studio LPs and EPs into ‘The Vinyl Collection’. It’s joined by ‘The Full Tank’, which is comprised all of their CD releases and music videos, but perhaps most exciting for dedicated fans is ‘The Overflow tank’, which, as you may have gathered, contains a stack of rare and unreleased material – over 14 hours of it.

The unreleased material comes on four CDs and eight DVDs,and includes everything from home recordings taken in the ’70s, to tracks cut from 10-1 and Blue Sky Mining, and even covers and B-sides from the ’90s. The video goodies include sets from 1981’s Tanelorn Festival, a mid-’80s gig on Sydney’s Goat Island, and a South African stadium concert from 1994, as well as their performance on MTV Unplugged.

All three are being released on Friday May 12th in Australia and New Zealand, with other territories to follow. Full details of everything that’s included can be found here, and you can pre-order your own oil drums while you’re there.
