Representative of the neo-bohemians stylistic shift for third album, Fragrant World, ‘Longevity’ sounds like a half-stomp in quicksand, but its longing, lightly auto-tuned vocal and bronzed strings break free from the gritty subs. Darker in tone and harder of edge, but its slow delivery is still possessed of deep groove, genuine soul and a pleading lyric: “live in the moment/never count on longevity.”
Emmy Bryce – Hit The Ground
Featured on the last season of Offspring, Emmy Bryce’s track ‘Hit The Ground’ is so twee, it’s adorable. Featuring a cute horn section and a fun piano melody, this song is around fifteen kinds of fun. Bryce hails from Melbourne and obviously has a huge future in pop. Die! Die! Die! – Trinity
Die! Die! Die! are back with their fourth studio album ‘Harmony’, and sounding like a fresh young band. ‘Trinity’ is a track that definitely sticks out off the album with shades of light and dark, the light in the verses and dark in the chorus. Still with blistering guitars and pounding drums, these guys do post punk perfectly (although surely they warrant a whole new genre name created just for them). Definitely a band you must see live too, but remember take ear plugs.
The Smith Street Band – Why I can’t Draw
This tune is a great home grown sample from Aussie’s The Smith Street Band. It’s full of lyrically heavy tales, stemming from everyday Melbourne where the group is located. “Why I Can’t Draw” is one of those neutral tracks that will suit and catch the attention of various listeners, regardless of musical taste. A good one for the summer BBQ playlist.
